Junior League of Greenwich Announces Community Grant Award Winners!

sue rogers at enchantedEvery year, the Junior League of Greenwich designates $5,000 of its funds to be awarded to one or more community organizations through its Community Grant Award.

The grant is intended to fund new initiatives or expand programs relating to significant community needs. The qualifying applying organizations must be tax-exempt, promote volunteerism, and provide training and/or education for the community.

The 2016 Community Grant Award recipients are Greenwich Alliance for Education and Kids in Crisis.  Each organization will be awarded $2,500.

“The JLG commends Greenwich Alliance for Education and Kids in Crisis for their outstanding contributions to the community and their consistency in providing innovative and effective programs to our youth,” said Alessandra Messineo Long, President of The Junior League of Greenwich.

The Greenwich Alliance for Education will apply the grant towards implementing a new program, Mastering Math on Saturdays at New Lebanon School.

This is a parent and child five-week instructional pilot. The goal is to encourage parent participation in their child’s math education during the course of five Saturday mornings at New Lebanon School.

Kids in Crisis will utilize the award to launch a pilot “social skills” program at three public elementary schools in Greenwich called Bucket of Skills. The Greenwich Department of Social Services has identified a need for programming at the kindergarten and first grade levels and asked Kids in Crisis to provide a program. The program will address difficulties that impact children’s classroom behavior and/or the ability to progress in school, which may include impulse control, frustration tolerance, affect regulation and friendship building.

The Junior League of Greenwich is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained individuals.
