Join the Greenwich Alliance for Education in a Turkey Trot through Bruce Park!

Over 900 participants are registered for Saturday’s Turkey Trot to benefit the Greenwich Alliance for Education.

This is the Alliance’s fifth annual Turkey Trot in Bruce Park, and has become a fantastic post Thanksgiving tradition. This is a family friendly activity and registrants can choose from either a 5K race or a non-competitive 1 mile run/walk.

Both will begin and end at the Arch Street Teen Center at 100 Arch Street.  The Alliance is are grateful to their race sponsors, Cadillac of Greenwich (1 Mile) and Hospital for Special Surgery (5K) who have supported them for the past 3 years.

The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk will start at 9:30am followed by the 5K at 10:00am.  All proceeds from the Turkey Trot will directly benefit the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s programs that aim to foster educational success for Greenwich Public School students.

Those interested can register online from the Greenwich Alliance’s website, www.greenwichalliance.org.

Pre-registered runners can pick up bibs, T-shirts, and goody bags on Friday, Nov. 27 at the Arch Street Teen Center from 2-5PM. The Arch Street Teen Center is located at 100 Arch St.

Prior to race day, registration cost is $25 per adult and $10 per child age 14 and under. The first 250 registrants receive a $5 gift card from Garden Catering. Race-day registration will take place inside the Arch Street Teen Center from 8-9am. The cost race day will be $35 per adult and $15 per child 14 and under. T-shirts and goody bags with offers from local merchants will be guaranteed to runners who register by November 18 and to all other registrants while supplies last.  Again this year – chip timing for the 5K race! Warm-up and stretching organized prior to the 1 Mile start by Greenwich Track Club.

Awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female 5K winners and the top three male and female finishers in 8 age categories, from 14-and-under to 70-plus.  All 16-and-under 1-mile finishers will receive medals. Refreshments will be provided by Kings Food Markets, the Upper Crust Bagel Company and Coca-Cola.

The Alliance is excited to build on the past success of this annual event and hopes to add more sponsors and donations for runner amenities this year.  Interested local businesses are encouraged to contact Julie Faryniarz at 203-340-2323 or [email protected].

The Greenwich Alliance for Education was founded in 2006 as a way for the Greenwich community to support the public school system by piloting innovative, educational programs that provide access to opportunities which offer enrichment and close achievement gaps. The Alliance has three main programs: “Going Places With Books”, early literacy program delivered aboard our Storymobile; “Tuning In To Music”, free instrumental music lessons for students unable to afford this opportunity; “Reaching Out Grants”, grants awarded to fund to pilot innovative programs in our schools.
