Cancer Patients to Benefit from Greenwich Hospital’s October Gala, Oct. 24

Betteridge Greenwich Hospital will hold its annual Gala fundraiser on Saturday, October 24 to support the award-winning oncology services available to patients with cancer. Last year, cancer patients sought those services at Smilow Cancer Hospital/Greenwich Hospital Campus on more than 38,500 occasions.

“Cancer can strike at any time. It does not discriminate based on age, wealth or ethnicity,” noted hospital president, Norman G. Roth, “Until we can cure this disease and save every life touched by it, we will continue to invest in the latest tests and treatments, hire expert and compassionate caregivers and give everyone in our community their best chance at recovery. Community support such as the funds raised by the Gala will help us do that.”

Joan LundenThe major fundraising event will take place at Greenwich Country Club starting at 6 pm. Television journalist and author, Joan Lunden, will serve as the evening’s master of ceremonies.

Lunden, a breast cancer survivor and Greenwich resident, received treatment for the disease at Greenwich Hospital last year. During the evening ceremonies, Terry Betteridge, CEO of Betteridge jewelers will receive The President’s Award for his years of unwavering support for Greenwich Hospital.

“It is my honor to be a part of this important event supporting oncology services at Greenwich Hospital” said Lunden, who has been cancer-free since May. ”I couldn’t have asked for a better team of doctors, nurses and staff than I found at Greenwich Hospital. They were my teachers, my cheerleaders and my friends. I can’t thank them enough.”
