The Messiah at First Congregational Church – A 50-Year Greenwich Tradition

Since 1966,  First Congregational Church of Greenwich has presented Part I of Handel’s Messiah, the Christmas portion, concluding with the Hallelujah chorus. The First Church Festival Chorus, nearly one hundred singers strong and including members of the entire Greenwich/Stamford community, is accompanied by a twenty-piece chamber orchestra and professional soloists for the performances.

The 50th Anniversary performance will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 4:00 pm.

To mark this monumental occasion, over the course of 2 concerts, the Festival Chorus and Orchestra will perform the complete oratorio. Parts II and III will be performed in First Church’s May Spring Festival of the Arts concert.

Anyone who has choral experience, regardless of religious affiliation, is encouraged to join the Festival Chorus for the 50th annual Messiah concert. There will be only one choir rehearsal (on Monday, December 5) and one dress rehearsal with the orchestra (on Wednesday, December 7), both from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. There is a refundable score deposit of $20. “There are no auditions; everyone is welcome,” said Dr. Craig Symons, Music Director at First Church. “The singers always have a great time. Just ask one!”
