NMS 4th Grader Takes 2nd Prize in Kaufman Music Center Int’l Youth Piano Competition

Last week, some of the finest young pianists from around the world traveled to New York City to compete in the week-long Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition. The competition took place in the Merkin Concert Hall in NYC from June 16 through 21. A total of 154 applicants from 11 different countries participated in the competition.

Stephanie Chang, a 4th grader from North Mianus School, became the 2nd Prize Winner in Junior 1 division. She is a student of Svitlana Fiorito from Stamford Music and Arts Academy.

Stephanie played beautifully in both semifinal and final rounds, with 15 and 20 minutes long for each round. Her competition repertoire included Haydn Sonata, Bach Sinfonia, Bach Concerto, Chopin Etudes, Schubert Impromptu, and Berkovich Variation.

The Winners Showcase Concert will be held in Merkin Concert Hall at 2pm on Tuesday, June 23rd. The concert will be hosted by Robert Sherman of New York’s Public Radio WQXR. It is open to public.
