Mounds of Trash Collected during Green & Clean’s Townwide Cleanup Day

Where can you find a child’s rattle, two golf balls, a sock and a coat hanger?

The answer is at Greenwich Point, where those could be found among hundreds of plastic bottles and beverage cans, food wrappers, bottle caps and lids of all description, straws and scores of small pieces of plastic, paper and foam.

At a recent Greenwich Green & Clean Fall Town-Wide Cleanup, many volunteers scoured Greenwich Point, Byram Beach and the banks of the Mianus River for trash either washed up on the shore or carelessly tossed aside.

Approximately 200 pounds of items were later tallied for the International Coastal Cleanup for onward reporting to the Ocean Conservancy in Washington.

Greenwich Green & Clean conducts spring and fall cleanups, as well as organizing individual groups at other times.  To volunteer or for more information about Green & Clean activities, call 203-531-0006.
