Curiosity Concerts + Greenwich Alliance = Music Enrichment

The Greenwich Alliance for Education recently received a matching grant of $4,768 from the CT Office of the Arts to bring a New Haven-based quartet — the Haven String Quartet — to lead a master class with Tuning In To Music Students and perform a free family concert at Greenwich Library.

The Alliance is delivering this program in partnership with the Greenwich Arts Council’s Curiosity Concerts, Music Haven, Greenwich Library, and Connecticut School of Music. All of the organizations are contributing to the program’s full budget.

#1: MASTER CLASS with the Haven String Quartet

Monday, October 26, 2015, 4:00 – 7:00 pm for Tuning In To Music Students at the Greenwich Arts Council Meeting Room 299 Greenwich Avenue, 2nd Floor, Greenwich.

Area music students will have the extraordinary opportunity to work with the talented professional musicians of the Haven String Quartet. They’ll gain insights into the life of a working musician and the skills and strategies that contribute to great collaborative playing. Some students will share a solo piece that they have been working on and get fresh feedback on how to make their instruments “sing.” This will be a relaxed afternoon, filled with laughter, camaraderie, music-making, and food. Teachers and families are warmly invited to observe.

Tuning In To Music, a project of the Greenwich Alliance for Education, provides free private and semi private instrumental music lessons for students in grades  4 – 12 who could not otherwise afford music lessons like many of their peers. The overall goal of the program is being realized as students from underrepresented populations are joining the GPS flagship ensembles in middle and high school. Annually Tuning In To Music funds lessons for nearly 70 students during the school year, culminating in a year end recital.

#2: RECITAL on Saturday, November 7, at 1pm Tuning In To Music students will perform with the Haven String Quartet at Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium

In addition, select students will be invited to perform with the Haven String Quartet in a special public recital on November 7, 2015 at 1:00pm at Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium.

#3:  FREE FAMILY CONCERT on Saturday, November 7, at 2pm featuring the Haven String Quartet at Greenwich Library’s Cole Auditorium more information at www.CuriosityConcerts.org

And everyone is invited to attend the Haven String Quartet’s free family concert at Greenwich Library, also on November 7, at 2:00pm. That public concert is free but reservations are required at www.CuriosityConcerts.org.

The Haven String Quartet is the permanent quartet-in-residence of Music Haven, a New Haven-based nonprofit that unites people of all backgrounds to support each other through music. The Haven String Quartet works to integrate music and creative endeavor into community life, providing access to free music education and world-class chamber music performances to residents in New Haven’s most underserved neighborhoods. The quartet also performs in other communities, providing engaging performances in traditional concert halls and reaching new audiences in non-traditional venues. Its members are all exemplary performers and skilled teaching artists.

This Master Class, Recital, and Concert are offered by the Greenwich Alliance for Education in partnership with the Greenwich Arts Council’s Curiosity Concerts, Music Haven, Greenwich Library, and Connecticut School of Music. They are paid for through a grant from The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County and the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA), with additional contributions from the partner organizations.
