CMS Winter Musical, “13,” Grapples with Painful Lessons of Popularity, Social Pressure

Following a move from New York City to suburban Indiana, young Evan Goldman enrolls in Dan Quayle Junior High School, as he copes with his parents’ divorce and prepares  for his Bar Mitzvah – all while navigating the complicated cliques in a new social circle.

Anyone who has been 13 knows these are daunting challenges. Worse, the star quarterback is threatening to ruin Evan’s life, and his sole friend, Patrice, feels rejected and won’t talk to him. Another classmate is blackmailing him and another is spreading rumors.

With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, “13” is a funny, high-energy musical for all ages about discovering that it’s cool to be true to yourself.

The show is directed by Chris DiTota , with musical direction by Rebecca Lipschutz. Choreography is by Christine Gavin.
